Easter is a time to look back, relax and enjoy family moments
Many of us, including myself will look at the first quarter of the year just passing and think - wow that was an intense time I need a break. Well the good news is, we just have Easter coming up what many of us associate with the start of spring, lighter days and the start of the warmer season. However, holidays are not just holidays - I have made a commitment to myself this time to really take a break, look back, reflect and relax. The idea is to really be in the moment - and don’t think about tomorrow for one long weekend :)
Taking a break is primarily a mental challenge. We really need to be able to switch off and leave all the spiral of thoughts behind us. In the past, I personally was really bad about this and always thought about the time after my holidays. Not this time. Really be in the moment with your family, in your holiday and don’t think about the next to do list coming your way. So how can we really relax and stop the noise in our head for a little while?
Firstly, this is a skill we can learn and not a given talent. We can learn to switch off and calm our mind. There are various different techniques but they are all about switching off that spiral of thoughts in our head for a little while and really being present. We can do breathing exercises or proper mindfulness as our day to day routines to learn this desirable skill of letting go and reducing our anxiety.
The reasons why holidays are so great for this is , they give us a change in location, a change in perspective and a timeout to really practice those skills that we might but always have time for in our hectic day to day routines.
Easter is therefore a great time to start and to focus our mind on all the great things we did and really enjoy some time with our loved ones. We can practice mindfulness which if practiced regularly we can then easily integrate into our routines.
Enjoy the long weekend and try to really take a break to restore energy levels and come back with a calm and relaxed mind for all that life throws at us.
