Say what you want loud and clear – then you will regret nothing
We all like successful people. We see attractive men and women that look like super humans and instinctively wish to become like them. However, the real question to ask is how did they get there? Most of the time, by saying loud and clear what they want to strive for, without being afraid of failure and intimidated by very often controversial opinions. If you want to be successful, you must have friends as well as enemies, this happens automatically if you state what you want loud and clear. Being everybody’s darling will not get you there.
Before you can state what, you want to others, you must be clear about it yourself. Now very often, this is the hardest part. Many of us have the privilege to live in a world of thousands of opportunities. However, that can be a curse too, as it makes it more difficult to really find what we want and are most passionate about. To get there, means to really reflect on ourselves and then to actively choose from all those opportunities exposed to us every day. It is all about constant active choices we must make for ourselves. Sometimes we might make the wrong choice, but this is not a bad thing, it will only trigger a learning effect.
Once we have a rough idea of what it is we really want, it is important that we talk about it and who we talk about it to. Let us take the example of the work context. If we know what path we want to go down in our career, it is very useful to talk to the people specifically who are already working in those positions. Further, we will find that the more we talk about our desires, visions and goals, the more others will be able and willing to help us. In our society, people with visions, ideas and goals are often seen as attractive and can count on the support of others as they are often determined to be strong characters and not afraid of tough choices both for themselves and others. This often qualifies them as great authentic leaders in the eyes of others.
Many of us make the mistake of either not clearly knowing what we want or feel intimidated to talk about it. Both is a mistake. To know what you want is the more difficult part here thought. The earlier you find your path, the better, as the more time you must truly excel in it.
The second part of talking about your vision and clearly stating of where you want to get to, is often perceived as the harder bit, when really it is all about establishing a strong network of people that can help you to get there. Those people can be seen as mentors, coaches or maybe just friends that you have know for a long time that can put things back into perspective. It is very important not to be intimidated to even talk to people in higher positions in a company than yourself, as those often have enough influence to open doors for you to get closer to where you want to be.
Another great thing about stating your wishes and desires openly, is you will not feel any regrets when things do not work out as planned. When you speak to colleagues or managers at work about your desires, at the right time and go for opportunities presented to you off the back of that, even if things do not always work out, you tried and will try again next time. This way, you will not look back and potentially regret not having tried in the first place.
Remember, it is best to know what you want and then state it loud and clear to the right people at the right time. It will open doors and help you to get there faster and with a much larger network of support behind you.
