Your choice – love it, leave it or change it

People love to complain, why? Because it is easy. Complaining is even fun sometimes and we hear it around us a lot from all kinds of people. However, when we leave the path of complaint for a second, we always have a choice, in facts, we have three choices whenever someone or something annoys us. They are called love, leave or change. The most important aspect, all of those are evaluated as equally good or bad. We only need to choose and live with the consequences.

Love, leave or change can be applied to any situation we are faced with. What it essentially means is we can love a situation and just accept it and be happy. Alternatively, we can leave a situation that we are not happy in or are not willing to accept. Thew third option, to change it, if, and this very often is not the case, we have the power to do so.

Let’s look at a concrete example at work. We are not happy with our new boss as we think they are too harsh on us. Rather than simply complaining about him or her, we can now choose love it, leave it or change it. Love it in this situation is something we can rule out quite quickly, as we already know that we don’t like our new boss. This leaves us with the other two options, change it and leave it.

Leave it, would be the most drastic option to go for, as it does require us to leave our team, department or even the entire company and look for a job elsewhere. However, it is surely an option as, as we said before with this concept, each choice is of equal value.

Lastly, we can go for change it. In this example, this could mean to schedule a meeting with our new boss and address our concerns directly with him to try and find a solution or a better way of working together. Here, it is in our power to change the situation, however very often, for example with decisions from politicians that affect us, we don’t have the option or the power for change. With the change options, this is therefore a side aspect we always must consider, if change is within our power.

Once we have understood that we always have those three choices, we can apply those options to any situation that we face in live. The great thing here is, that by applying the concept of love, leave or change we are also always required to reflect on ourselves, the situation we face, as well as what we really want as a solution.

Very often, especially the leave option is seen as cowardness or failure by people, however it is very important that each option is of equal value. Sometimes it is best to leave a situation or conflict to not cause more harm. Therefore, leave is not the worst of the three or any such thing. They are all equal options we have at anytime in our life to apply.

Rather than passively complaining about conflicts, we have to start making active choices. The choice is made up of love it, leave it or change it -and it is entirely up to us what we choose, as long as we choose and can live with the consequences. However, very importantly we do have a choice - which are very good news as it means we ourselves can influence our development and progression.
