Don’t always assume - it is much better to know
We all know these colleagues at work that love to get involved in the latest gossip. Quite honestly, I am not one of those people that like that. I think it is healthier to talk with people, rather than about them. Also, connected to this, people live to speculate - again - I think it is much better to concentrate on what we know than speculate what could be.
The problem is, speculation is so easy and fun. It is easy for our brain to really get into thinking through a lot of different scenarios of what could happen - rather than focusing on the here and now on what we know. We should really remind ourselves therefore once we realize our brain is drifting off into a web of speculations and could best to come back into the moment.
Speculation costs a lot of energy, and it is not always put in the right place. Very often, we make assumptions about things that are totally out of our own control. We should really do the opposite and but energy to things that we can directly influence. Everything else is out of our control anyway.
Assumptions can be fun but they usually cause a lot of stress and are out of our control. It is therefore healthy for our mind not to get too deep into them and deal with what we know and can influence. Once we know we can adjust and decide on the new situation at hand to base decisions on.
So don’t assume - know - it’s the much more fruitful alternative.
