Risks are part of life - but make sure they are manageable
This week is a big week for my family - we are finally buying our first ever property. I have to say - it has been a long shot but I have learned a lot along the way . One thing is about taking risks.
There are always situations in life where we have to take risks. A risk is often scary for people, as we are not able to predict the outcome - in a world where we are more and more trying to predict everything. However, risks are part of life and there is some truth in the saying no risk no fun.
However, while we have to take risks, they have to stay manageable. There are different types of risks we can take and we should definitely avoid the ones that can ruin us. For example, when our car breaks down that’s bad but not life threatening. But if we don’t have a good health insurance in place - that can eventually kill us .
the key is therefore to categorise and rank risks we are facing . Which ones can we take and where do we set our thresholds ?
This will help us to get a feeling for taking risks and make the idea less scary .
Taking risks will also help us build up resilience. We will be able to manage the unpredictability of things coming our way and understand that we cannot control and almost insure everything. It will help us free headspace.
Risks are part of life. We have to minimise those that can ruin us but understand that we cannot be protected against all odds. Take small risks - and life will be more fulfilled.
