If things seem overwhelming - take one step at a time
Many things right now give people lots of reasons to feel anxious and overwhelmed. We are facing a potential economic downturn; prices are going through the roof and many people fear for their jobs or are already facing layoffs. It is hard for many to stay optimistic when facing so many headwinds at the same time. The good news is – it is possible to stay positive in all of this and to not loose faith and direction.
The first step is to take time outs from the media that constantly feeds us with more apocalyptic news. We should make sure that we limit our time reading and following the news. While it is important to stay informed, it is also important to take time out and fill our day with positive news. Everyone knows that bad news in the media sell better than good ones – so take time out consuming media.
The next thing is to actively take time to do things for us that we enjoy. This could be a nice walk on the weekend or even something like a spa visit with your loved ones. It is important that we make time for things we enjoy, to fill ourselves with positive energy. Those positive experience give us a real boost to also face more difficult situations again in our day-to-day life.
Further, especially in times of crisis, it is always good to have a plan and not run into things head over heels. The message here really is - be prepared and make a plan. That can be a financial plan for paying your bills or a career plan to make sure you have a plan b once things might start to get a but tough. Being prepared is key and always helps to reduce the damage things that happen to us can cause in the end. However, make sure you don’t end up making too many plans as this can potentially cause stress and anxiety again.
Another true philosophy here is, take it easy and be patient. You cannot have everything at the same time maybe but take one step at a time and you will still get there eventually. Sometimes there days we feel like we are facing a mountain to climb in front of us and don’t know where to start. If this happens, it helps to break down the mountain in a lot of smaller steps and just make a start. We will realize that the longer we walk and the more steps we make, the smaller the mountain will become.
Lastly, positivity comes with hope. We always need to have hope that things will become better and easier. Hope is an absolutely essential element in our life, and we cannot lose it even I the hardest if times. Hope stands above everything, and it is essential that we stick to this, always and in every situation, we should hope for the better. Hope cannot only help ourselves but also others, and very often helping others and giving them hope to boost our feel-good mechanism. By helping others, we therefore often help ourselves become more positive.
Many of us are facing tough times at the moment. However, let’s not forget the positives by taking one step at a time and not to get overwhelmed by the mountain in front of us. We will be able to have it all – maybe we need to be a bit more patient and wait a bit longer but by seeing something positive in every day and not getting overwhelmed by the negativity of the media - things can get a little easier for ourselves to feel good again even in current very uncertain times.
