It’s ok not to be important - for a while

I sometimes look at my calendar and can’t believe that the end of the year is already coming closer and closer. For many of us this means getting into the festive spirit while on the other hand having a very tense time at work where we try to get everything done that needs to get done before the end of the year. However, it does not have to be that way.

The way out of this is if we stop taking ourselves so seriously. We don’t always have to be the first in line when it comes to accepting that urgent request - we don’t always have to go for it with all we have. Sometimes we need a mental break and we are in charge when and how we want to take it.

That does not mean we should generally not be driven and work hard to achieve our goals - but in a time where we might have other priorities in our life, we can take a step back and don’t always have to be in the limelight.

Italy is underlined by the feeling of self - importance. Being busy makes us feel important, accepted and it gives us a satisfying feeling of growth. This is great but how often in the year do we have to be important , always ? Or do we sometimes feel like we can step back into the second row and concentrate on other things rather than the manic deadlines at work? Of course we have to do our job and we have to do it well - but maybe well does not have to mean at burnout level.

Sacrificing that little bit of self importance will help us enjoy the time between now and the end of the year more - while we will still do a great job. We don’t always have to be important and for our mind - that’s a good thing.
