Stop talking about luck - start talking about hard work, boldness & effort

We all know these people around us who just seem to be getting everything right. They have an awesome job, a high income, have a harmonious family and look like a model. We are increasingly jealous of those people, who from an outside perspective can’t go wrong. The standard phrase then is “oh he or she had so much luck or she was just lucky!”. However, far from it.

Most of those movers and shakers around us that just seem to perfect to us to be truly human, have put tremendous effort, sweat and teers into their success. Just saying they were lucky, is an easy and top-level evaluation, which allows us to justify our own weaknesses and imperfections in comparison to those people around us that we all know. However, ideally, we would take a closer look at them and learn from their successes.

If we take that closer look and take our time to understand how these people are so successful in their life, we see that it did not just fall form the sky or was destiny. Mostly, these people paid a high price for their successes, but working hard, showing bold decision making, having courage, and also experiencing a lot of ups and downs along the way. In public, they want to only project the perfect image of a mother, a great businesswoman or even show their beautiful features. However, all these people have also experienced failure, weaknesses and have learned to overcome those along their way to success repeatedly. They decided against burring their dreams and were willing to put the work in or as we say in football “walk the extra mile”.

The amazing thing is, that most of the time when we are hard – working and ready to walk the extra mile, we discover that things are on our side. We are almost rewarded by destiny for our efforts and things work out or new opportunities open suddenly. When this happens, others often talk about luck, not seeing our tremendous efforts and work put in before. The bit of luck is therefore only the final reward for our effort, bold decisions, and the desire to achieve.

We therefore need to stop talking about luck and destiny when looking at the large success in life of some people around us and start to look at their hard work and sacrifices they made to get to this point. If we compare this then to our own efforts in this field, we very often discover that those people really have gone the extra mile and should be rewarded with a bit of “luck”. For example, if we see someone getting an amazing new high paid job, we don’t see the thousands of applications that person sent before and that have potentially gone nowhere. This is what we don’t see, and we have to get to a point where we exchange our experiences, good and bad ones and not see the success of others as a given that dropped from the sky.

It is always easier to comment on highflyers in our society with “they are just lucky”. What we do not see is the had wo they put in, the risks they were wiling to take and the effort they undertook to move forward in achieving their goals. However, this is what we should see, and this is where we can learn from them to achieve our own goals and be successful in our life. It is therefore time not to talk of luck and destiny anymore, but of bold, courageous people who walked the extra mile to achieve their dreams, that we can learn from. We will see that this will make us happier, more productive, and ultimately more successful in our own life, by being more proactive and not just trusting in luck or destiny. We will see, if we work hard – things fall into place, and we also get some “luck” as a reward.
