We all want happiness in life but what does that mean ?
I had very inspiring conversations with colleagues this week. It was all about finding happiness in life and what that might entails for all of us. Happiness is very subjective and means very different things for very different people. What combines all of it is that happiness is usually very closely linked to the ideas of dining a purpose.
Whether religious or not, I am under the form believe that every single person in life has a purpose. A reason for being, a task on earth that we have to fulfil throughout our life. That task can be anything from raising a child or giving something back - the main reason is that it is something that is deeply fulfilling for us.
Happiness is very closely linked to that idea of finding purpose. While happiness can mean anything from going on a great holiday to having a great meal - at some point people automatically reach the bigger questions of finding happiness in life. Like do we find happiness in having children - where do we want to permanently live to find happiness? Those questions are really the tricky ones to answer.
The answers are very often linked to values and purpose. Those two concepts can really provide purpose and orientation. They almost act like filters for us to find orientation is a wild of distractions. It is our red line to find happiness and focus on things we want to know make us happy.
When are we really happy ? Usually when the purpose we have very closely matches the life we actually live. When there are large discrepancies between our purpose and the life we love we don’t feel fulfilled.
Finding happiness is not easy . However it is getting easier when we link it to the idea of finding a purpose. The purpose can change and adjust throughout our life - but the task of finding it to reach happiness does not change. So go out and find your purpose it will get you to be happier.
