What a year it has been - take a moment to breath

It is that time of year again with Christmas and the New Year celebrations just around the corner. And for me personally, what a year it has been. This year, I received the biggest gift of becoming a mum to a beautiful boy. I am extremely grateful for this happy little bunch of joy in our life, and it will be our first Christmas together as a family. This period of year is always a good opportunity to pause, reflect and look back on the year and mostly on the positive achievements we all can be proud of. It is easy to be hard on yourself all the time, but sometimes it is also great to just pause, look back and pad yourself on the back to see all you managed to do this year and beyond.

Taking the time for reflection is important, also for making new plans to move forward again. Not every year will be a particularly great one to be proud of, but surely everyone can recollect some positive moments and memories from this year. I always find the holidays a great time to do some annual reflection, as the world (at least in our imagination) becomes just this little bit quieter for a little while to give us a break – to me, that also really makes up the magic of Christmas. So, enjoy the silence for a moment and take time to reflect on your year. What was great, what wee challenges, what made this year special for us?

Taking time to reflect is essential to learn and feel motivated again to move forward at full speed come 2024. Reflection means looking back, but also by looking back already making new plans on how to move forward. Only when we close on the past, can we move on, full of energy and new goals into 2024.

So take time to breath, look back at your achievements and just tell yourself how great you are while also not blocking things out that could have potentially gone better. We always tend to rush on to the next big thing in our mind, but sometimes can be great just to tell yourself you are awesome. I will certainly look back at 2023 as a big year and one of lots of achievements. Most importantly, becoming a mother. This will give me the necessary time to pause, take a breath and then start 2024 full of energy again to make it a great one.

Enjoy your holidays, spend time with the family and don’t be too hard on yourself. We don’t need to be perfect; we all try our best every day. I learned this year that family is a wonderful thing to have, and I hope that we all can spend Christmas with family, whatever that might mean for us. Have a great festive season and see you back at progress coaching in 2024.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
