When the world around us seems to crumble - we should focus on the opportunities around us
This week marked the death of her majesty Queen Elisabeth II, which did put the world into shock. It barely happens that people from across the world feel connect, sad and respectful about a person or event at the same time. Her death is one of those moments. It is a moment where for a second the world seemed to stop, where we took a break from our busy lives to stand together to remembers, to remember a great leader. She was an inspiration, whether we like the monarchy or not. So, the question is what can we learn from her and what can we maybe take back into out own lives as an inspiration?
The Queen like not many others, gave us a sense of stability. She was always there, in good times and in challenging times was she by our side. She was always optimistic and knew that after challenging and tough times such as the Covid pandemic bright days would lie ahead. That’s positivity and hope for the future is something we can take onboard and learn from her.
With the death of the queen, many of us feel the world as we know it, with all its stability and peacefulness is coming to an end, and we are faced by a wave of crisis’s and change that we cannot see the outcome of. We feel like nothing is certain anymore and we feel a longing for that stability and timelessness the queen always stood for. We are not only sad for her loss therefore, but also for the turn in time her death symbols for many of us.
However, besides all the sadness, and in the positive spirit of the queen, we should see the opportunities around us. Even in time of utter uncertainty, they are there, for us to look at and to grasp. We need to stay lean and flexible to be excited for what lies ahead - rather than only seeing out fear that an era has come to an end. The future is right ahead with a new king, Charles III and it will be very different – but it might not be the disaster we fear for. We might see that the future is not turning out too bad, as we learn to build resilience and adjust to constant change and inconsistency. While these times might be not as pleasant and challenging, they might also make us stronger, and we learn to see something good in them. This is what we can learn from the queen - to always see the good in things.
Further, we should grow into being inspiring leaders like her, even in times of growing uncertainty. Leadership is about seeing the potential in others and the opportunities around us. All of us can be a little bit like the queen – if we manage to be a stable rock in rough times and give others courage and hope in difficult times. We should all take her as an inspiration therefore to project a little bit of her leadership skills onto our own lives.
Life will go on - even without the queen and we will learn to live with it. The future might be different but no less bright. It will make us grow and develop as the world has always done - even in the darkest of days. We will stand together and learn to connect in our sadness. We will remember an inspiring woman together side by side and should use her spirit to grow a little more together rather than increase our divisions further. Then, the queen would have been proud and will have a true legacy for us and the entire world – which I think was never her intention – but will make the world a little better and brighter for a great future ahead. Let’s leave it there - God save the Queen.
